Ali Larijani Re-Elected As Iranian Parliament Speaker For 12th Consecutive Year - Reports

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 26th May, 2019) Iranian lawmakers re-elected Ali Larijani as speaker of the country's parliament for the 12th consecutive year, the country's parliamentary news agency ICANA reported on Sunday.
Larijani received votes of 155 out of 274 parliamentarians.
The post was also contested by Mohammad Reza Aref and Mohammad Javad Abtahi, who received 105 and nine votes, respectively.
Larijani has been the speaker of the Iranian parliament since 2008. Last year, he received 147 out of 279 votes of deputies, while his rival Aref scored 123 votes.
