About 2,000 migrants from Honduras crossed the border of Guatemala and Mexico overnight to head toward the United States, media reported
According to Financiero news portal, since early morning, migrants began lining up at a huge queue near a footbridge in the city of Tecun Uman (Guatemala) in order to cross into Mexico. The Mexican authorities put no obstacles for migrants.
At the same time, the Mexican migration control center was reportedly closed, so most of the Honduran citizens actually entered the country illegally, while a small part of them remained waiting for the opening of the center in order to formalize their entry into Mexico and ask for a humanitarian visa.
Now the caravan of migrants is moving toward the Mexican city of Tapachula.
Caravans of migrants from Central American states began to move toward the United States through Mexico last fall. According to different estimates, there are about 6,000 to 9,000 migrants from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador staying in the Mexican cities of Tijuana and Mexicali. A part of the migrants from these caravans returned to their home countries or decided to stay in Mexico. The US authorities have deployed scores of servicemen at the border over security concerns.
