DPR Authorities Say Register Growing Number Of Truce Breaches By Ukraine Over Past Week

A representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) has reported about a growing number of truce breaches by Ukrainian troops over the past week
On December 27, the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine agreed on a New Year's truce in the Donbas region starting on December 29.
"It is worth mentioning that since January 11, a dramatic increase in ceasefire violations by the Ukrainian troops has been registered. Despite the fact that the Ukrainian armed formation did not use heavy artillery systems prohibited by the Minsk agreements, regular attacks of the DPR territory with the use of mortars and tanks have continued," the representative said.
The conflict in Donbas started in 2014, when Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed republics that refused to recognize the new government in Kiev, which came to power after what they considered to be a coup.
In February 2015, the warring parties signed the Minsk peace accords to end the hostilities in the region, but the situation has remained tense, with both parties accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
