Over 3,000 refugees returned to their homes in Syria over past week, including nearly 1,000 Syrians who came back to the country from abroad, head of Russia's National Defense Control Center Col. Gen. Mikhail Mizintsev said Thursday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2018) Over 3,000 refugees returned to their homes in Syria over past week, including nearly 1,000 Syrians who came back to the country from abroad, head of Russia's National Defense Control Center Col. Gen. Mikhail Mizintsev said Thursday.

"Over the past week 3,117 Syrian citizens returned to their homes, including 2,180 internally displaced persons and 937 refugees from the territories of foreign countries," Mizintsev said at a meeting of Russian-Syrian headquarters coordinating the return of refugees.

According to Mizintsev, about 1.5 million forced migrants have already returned to Syria thanks to the measures taken, with over 243,000 people having come back to Syria from the territories of foreign countries.

"Hard work of a large number of people with the comprehensive assistance and support of various countries, recognizing the right of the Syrian citizens to decent peaceful life, are producing the positive results in Syria's rehabilitation," Mizintsev stressed.

He indicated that a total of 165 residential buildings, two schools, a medical facility, a nursery school along with four water supply facilities, two telecommunications centers and two electric substations had been repaired in Syria over the past week.

The Syrian government forces have recently regained control over vast territories once controlled by terrorists. The authorities are currently engaged in rebuilding Syria and creating conditions for peaceful life in the country.
