Pompeo Says Still In Charge Of North Korea Talks, US Denuclearization Efforts Unchanged
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Friday he was still leading Washington's diplomatic efforts to denuclearize the Korean peninsula
"Nothing changed, we're continuing to work, to negotiate, still in charge of the team," Pompeo said in a press conference.
"We've made progress, but our mission set has not changed a single bit."
On Thursday, a senior official from North Korean Foreign Ministry called on the United States to replace Pompeo with a more careful and mature negotiator, North Korean state-run news agency KCNA reported. Kwon Jong Gun blamed Pompeo for the failure of the second summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in February, the report said.
