Russia Satisfied With Coordination With China On Syrian Settlement - Foreign Ministry

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov commended coordination between Moscow and Beijing on political settlement in Syria during his meeting with Chinese Special Envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday
"Satisfaction with the effectiveness of close foreign policy coordination on Syria within the framework of the strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing was expressed. Russia and China's continued support for efforts to reach a prompt political settlement of the Syrian crisis on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 was confirmed," the statement said.
Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the government forces fighting against numerous opposition groups as well as militant and terrorist organizations.
Victory over the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia) was declared in Syria and Iraq in late 2017, but certain areas in both countries are still being cleared of militants.
Russia, Iran and Turkey are the guarantors of the ceasefire in Syria, having signed the Astana agreements on the creation of Syrian de-escalation zones in 2017. Russia has also been engaged in the reconstruction process in Syria and has helped Damascus with the return of refugees.
UN Security Council Resolution 2254, adopted in December 2015, calls on all parties to the conflict in Syria to immediately cease attacks against civilians, implement a ceasefire and engage in political negotiations.
