Russia's AvtoVAZ Says To Suspend Exports To Europe, Wants To Return With New Car Model

Russia's biggest automobile manufacturer, AutoVAZ, will suspend exports to Europe over toughened ecological norms in the European Union, a representative of the company told Sputnik on Friday, adding that the company was going to return to the EU market later with a new car model
"Due to the toughened ecological norms in European countries, we are making changes to our export activities in this region. Undoubtedly, at some point we will have to leave [EU countries] for some time. However, we have plans to create a global model in close cooperation with our alliance partners and return to these markets," the representative said.
The exports of AvtoVAZ vehicles increased by 57 percent to 38,052 cars last year. AvtoVAZ vehicles are exported to 34 countries across the world, including Chile, Cuba, Tunisia and Turkey. About 30 percent of the car maker's exports account for one of its newest car models, Lada Vesta.
AvtoVAZ was founded in 1966 in the Russian city of Tolyatti, Samara Region. It is mostly known for his Lada cars, which have been exported for decades.
