RT and Sputnik editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan commented on Wednesday on an educational program for children recently aired by French national broadcaster France 4 that aimed to raise youngsters' awareness of alleged press freedom problems in Russia, which the show's authors dubbed a "factory that generates fake news
"In France, French state television [airs] an educational program for children to teach them that 'Vladimir Putin is a disinformation tsar,' while 'Russia is a giant factory to generate fake news.' Funny studio, a [TV] host resembling [French President Emmanuel] Macron and interesting activities for young participants. During the tv show the host helps the children to give the correct answers about how it's going with press freedom in Russia," Simonyan wrote on her Telegram blog.
According to Simonyan, some of the children participating in the show claimed that RT was broadcasting what the Russian leader wanted to be covered and that he allegedly made the broadcaster report positively about the country's government.
Simonyan also mentioned a remark made by 15-year-old Alexander, a citizen of France, Moldova and Ukraine, who suggested on the program that "Putin sends opposition figures to jail, and modern Russia in reality does not differ from the Russia of 1991-1992."
"Brave new world. We will soon release the video with all this soon," Simonyan said.
She also revealed that during one of the activities children were asked to write something on Twitter on behalf of Putin, and they ended up choosing the caption "I love fake news" as the Russian president's first tweet.
