Sri Lanka's Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando will attend the Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS) in April, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Dayan Jayatilleka told Sputnik on Wednesday
"The visit will be in April, the secretary of the Ministry of Defense will come to attend the [eighth] Moscow Conference on International Security ... The Moscow Conference on International Security is a very prestigious event and we take our participation in it very seriously," the ambassador said.
In December, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin announced that Russia had sent invitations to 101 foreign ministers to attend the conference and also planned to broaden the discussion topics at the conference.
The seventh edition of MCIS took place on April 4-5, 2018, with more than 850 delegates from 95 countries in attendance. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the main topic of the 2018 conference was the middle East after the eradication of the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia) from Syria with an accent on the issue of post-conflict recovery and establishing peace. Other topics covered security in Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and cooperation among the military departments of those regions.
