DAMASCUS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 13th January, 2019) The Arab-Kurdish detachments of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) operating in eastern Syria have announced on Saturday the detention of four members of the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia), including two allegedly with Russian citizenship.
According to the SDF press release, the militants were detained on January 9, the other two of them have Turkish and Afghan citizenship.
"This group of militants was deployed to carry out terrorist attacks in the city of Raqqa and organized terrorist cells in the city," the release says.
The militants have planned several terrorist attacks already committed in Raqqa and its suburbs, the SDF noted.
The SDF have been engaged in a military operation against the Islamic State in the terrorists' last outpost in the city of Hajin.
The US-led coalition has been carrying out frequent airstrikes on Hajin and nearby villages under the pretext of assisting the SDF in its anti-IS fight.
The Syrian media have reported civilian casualties as a result of the coalition's airstrikes on numerous occasions, with the Syrian authorities having called on the United Nations to hold those responsible accountable and put an end to the coalition's unauthorized presence on the Syrian territory. Pentagon then stated that the US coalition did not disclose the types of the ammunition used in Syria, but claimed that they complied with international standards.
