UN Special Envoy For Syria Says Looks Forward To Moscow Visit

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th January, 2019) New UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen said he looked forward to visiting Moscow for talks on Monday.
Pedersen took over from former Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura on January 7. Earlier this week, Pedersen visited Damascus for talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, which he called constructive.
After this, the envoy went to Riyadh where he had a "valuable" exchange of opinions with the opposition Syrian Negotiation Committee (SNC).
"In light of consultations with both Syrian parties, will work to further commonalities, build confidence & advance Geneva political process. Intensive engagement, concrete steps & international support essential. Look forward to talks in Moscow Monday," Pedersen wrote on Twitter.
On Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow expected to learn the envoy's position on the Syrian constitutional committee during the upcoming talks.
