WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th November, 2018) The United States has approved a possible sale to Japan of more than three dozen AIM-120C-7 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles at an estimated cost of $63 million, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a news release.
"The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Japan of thirty-two (32) AIM-120C-7 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) for an estimated cost of $63 million," the release said on Monday.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency explained that it delivered the required certification notifying the US Congress of the possible sale on November 16.
The US government considers the deal will provide Japan a critical air defense capability to defend itself and US military personnel there, the release said.
Raytheon Missile System from the US state of Arizona will be the principal contractor for the project, according to the release.
