MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 03rd December, 2018) The US-led coalition against the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, or ISIS, banned in Russia) killed a senior IS commander in Syria, who was involved in a brutal murder of a former US serviceman and other hostages, the coalition's spokesman, Sean Ryan, said.

"[Abu] al Umarayn had given indications of posing an imminent threat to Coalition Forces and he was involved in the killing of American Citizen and former U.S. Army Ranger, Peter Kassig. He has been linked to and directly involved with executing several other prisoners as a senior ISIS member," Ryan told Fox news on Sunday.

He added that the IS commander, along with several other members of the terrorist group, was killed in a drone strike in Syria's Badiyah Desert on Sunday.

Kassig, a former US serviceman from Indianapolis, was captured by militants in Syria in October 2013, where he was an employee of a humanitarian organization and engaged in the distribution of food and medicines. In 2014, IS released a video showing beheaded Kassig. The White House confirmed the death of the US citizen.
