US Security Forum in Djibouti Seeks Partnership With East Africa Nations - Pentagon

American diplomats from embassies in 12 East African nations have arrived to a US military base Djibouti for a three-day conference aimed at bolstering the United States' military, security and economic cooperation with countries in the region, the Defense Department said in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th December, 2018) American diplomats from embassies in 12 East African nations have arrived to a US military base Djibouti for a three-day conference aimed at bolstering the United States' military, security and economic cooperation with countries in the region, the Defense Department said in a press release on Tuesday.

"More than 30 US embassy representatives from 12 East Africa countries will attend the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) East Africa Security Forum (EASF), December 11-13 at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti," the release said. "The US is committed to setting conditions for increased economic growth, trade and investment in East Africa.

"

US Ambassador to Djibouti Larry Andre said the top American goal was to strengthen security for the United States, Djibouti and nations in the Horn-of-Africa region.

"The EASF [East Africa Security Forum] allows us to work collaboratively with our US Government colleagues across the region, both military and civilian, to advance this goal by planning strategically for the year ahead," Andre said.

The event is being held at at Camp Lemonnier, a US Naval Base in Djibouti that hosts CJTF-HOA and is part of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), according to the release.
