The number of victims of swine influenza in Georgia has increased to nine, local media reported on Monday.
Last week, Amiran Gamkrelidze, the Caucasus country's Center for Disease Control director, said that six people have died in Georgia from swine flu over one month, while 144 cases have been confirmed in a laboratory.
The most recent case is a 40-year old woman, who passed away following hospitalization, according to the Rustavi 2 broadcaster.
The CDC chief said that the spread of the respiratory disease, caused by the H1N1 strain, was progressing at a moderate rate, but the number of complications surpassed those recorded in 2018. Gamkrelidze stressed that Georgia was "far away from a pandemic."
