ERC Launches Fish Market Project In Al Khawkhah, Yemen

The UAE, represented by its humanitarian arm, the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, today launched a fish market project in Al Khawkhah District, Hodeidah Governorate, with the aim of supplying it with equipment and machinery
HODEIDAH, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 18th Mar, 2019) The UAE, represented by its humanitarian arm, the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, today launched a fish market project in Al Khawkhah District, Hodeidah Governorate, with the aim of supplying it with equipment and machinery.
Mohammed Al Junaibi, Director of Humanitarian Affairs of the ERC in Yemen, explained that the project will provide 11 tables for cutting and cleaning, two 40-tonne cooling and freezing refrigerators, two 100-kilowatt electricity generator, a washer for cleaning and preparing fish, and solar-powered water tanks.
He added that the fish market project, as well as another project to rebuild the fish landing centre that was launched 10 months ago, will benefit over 12,000 fishermen in Al Khawkhah and neighbouring areas.
He also noted that the project is part of the UAE’s support, through the ERC, for the humanitarian, services and development sectors of Yemen’s Red Sea Coast and other liberated governorates, to return stability and encourage economic activity.
Hashim Al Azazi, Under-Secretary of Hodeidah Governorate, said that the ERC’s services and development projects in the Red Sea Coast have returned the region’s normal living conditions and supported its health, education, fishing and other economic and trade sectors.
Several fishermen expressed their happiness at being able to continue fishing, which will benefit them and their families and improve their living conditions.
