ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 23rd Sep, 2018) The Ministry of Community Development, MOCD, organised an educational workshop on Wadeema Law, the UAE's Child Rights Protection Law.

The workshop is part of the Ministry’s efforts to disseminate awareness about the rights of children across society, including to individuals, institutions, families, and local communities, in line with the directives of the UAE government and its leadership to achieve the UAE Vision 2021 to be among the world’s most advanced countries in the social and economic development fields.

The workshop targeted 70 personalities from 15 entities that specialise in caring for children, including nannies, and a number of police headquarters dealing with children, youth and their guardians.

The awareness workshop noted that Wadeema Law includes defining the responsibilities of enforcement bodies in carrying out the law, clarifying the procedures for the Child Rights Protection Law and appropriate ways of implementation, identifying early intervention methods to reduce risk factors and their impact on the child and his or her family, integrating positive partnerships between the country, family and society, especially those who are related to children, and highlighting the consistency of the Child Rights Protection Law with international conventions and the UAE constitution.

The workshop is part of a series organised by the Ministry, following the issuance of Federal Law No.

03 of 2016 concerning Child Rights, which was previously implemented in Dubai and Ajman. It was presented by Mahmood Al Shayeb, Technical Specialist for Social Welfare at the MOCD, who stated that the Child Rights Protection Law is an integral part of the social legislation system in the UAE that cares for children's rights and their dignity. The expected results and outcomes of this workshop will promote positive trends towards protecting the rights of children.

Eman Abdulla Hareb, Director of Social Security Department at the Ministry, explained that the purpose of organising these workshops is to help customers reach the highest security levels in maintaining the rights of children to life, survival and development, and enable children who live in the UAE to have secure and developed lives free from exploitation and abuse, or from any physical and psychological violence that goes beyond legal norms and customs, such as the rights of parents and those who govern them to discipline their children and respect human culture and fraternity.

Hareb emphasised the necessity of achieving the best protection benefits for children, increasing their awareness of rights, obligations and duties in a community that believes in justice, equality, tolerance and values of moderation, in addition to the involvement of children in all areas of community life, according to their age, maturity and ability levels, so they can be raised on the best qualities and principles of the Wadeema Law.
