ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 11th Mar, 2019) Mubadala has welcomed the Brazilian Special Olympics team to the UAE for the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.
Speaking on the occasion, Homaid Al Shimmari, Mubadala's Deputy Group CEO and Chief Corporate and Human Capital Officer, said, "Abu Dhabi is opening its doors to the world during the Special Olympics and we want to ensure as many people as possible take part. We’re therefore delighted to have the opportunity to help the Brazilian team attend the Games. We’ve been active in Brazil for several years so supporting these inspiring athletes is a natural extension of our commitment to the community. We wish all those involved – from the UAE and around the world - the very best of luck at the Games."
Having been active in Brazil since 2011 through a number of major investments, Mubadala took the opportunity to sponsor the 51 members of the Brazilian Special Olympics team. This commitment has provided the critical support needed for athletes and the wider team to attend the global event.
George Millard, President of Fundacao Special Olympics Brazil, commented, "The support of Mubadala is essential for the development of our programme in Brazil. Without this support it wouldn't be possible to attend this event, which is the largest humanitarian event in the world. Our Athletes are very excited and grateful for the opportunity to show their courage and determination."
The Brazilian team will take part in a number of sports during the competition, including futsal, bocce, athletics, swimming, tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, beach volleyball and open waters.
Mubadala’s Brazil office manages a diverse portfolio of assets in sectors such as ports, mining, real estate and infrastructure. Mubadala's wholly owned UAE-based global satellite operator, Yahsat has also presence in Brazil since 2011 and covers 95 percent of the country with satellite broadband connectivity.
