ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 21st Jun, 2018) The Centre of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi (Tadweer) today announced that its Ramadan awareness campaign ‘Feel for Others’, aimed at promoting environment-friendly waste management practices, received an overwhelming public response and achieved significant positive impact in the community.
Contributing to enhancing awareness about the importance of reducing municipal solid waste, the initiative encouraged residents to avoid overconsumption and overspending during the Holy Month of Ramadan - urging them to only prepare as much food as needed and donate any surplus food to those in need.
Tadweer revealed that during holy month, its awareness programmes reached 1,106 visitors at shopping centres and 12,568 customers of government entities. The center also collected a total of 92,155 tons of general waste from dedicated waste bins across Abu Dhabi’s major commercial and residential neighborhoods.
Dr Salem Al Kaabi, Acting General Manager of Tadweer, said, "Tadweer’s Ramadan awareness drive played a crucial role in educating the public about the importance of reducing consumption and waste. In line with our strategic objective of promoting the three R’s – ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ and diverting waste from landfills in support of Abu Dhabi government’s sustainability agenda, the initiative enabled us to introduce various methods of resource conservation to the community."
He added, "Tadweer seeks to make waste reduction a daily habit among all households in Abu Dhabi.
To achieve this priority, our awareness campaigns focus on eliminating overconsumption and waste through the judicious use of natural resources."
Al Kaabi also pointed out that the initiative attracted strong participation from all segments of society due to the diverse tools used to deliver awareness messages. He thanked Tadweer’s partners for their continued support through encouraging members of the community to engage positively with the campaign’s messages and objectives.
Tadweer organised its Ramadan awareness campaign in collaboration with other government entities including the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Al Ain education Centre, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, Al Ain City Municipality, Abu Dhabi General Services (Musanada), Abu Dhabi Farmers' Services Centre, Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company, Department of Transport, Al Dhafra and Al Ain Police Directorates and Emirates Red Crescent. Additionally, United Arab Emirates University, Abu Dhabi University, Khawarizmi International College, Etisalat – Al Dhafra Branch and the companies contracted with Tadweer in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain also supported the initiative.
The campaign agenda included lectures at mosques and Holy Quran memorisation centres, and incorporating awareness messages in Friday sermons in collaboration with the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments to reach the largest possible audience across Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
