ASTANA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 10th Oct, 2018) The "6th Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions" began today in the Kazakh capital, Astana, under the theme, "Religious Leaders for a Safe World."
The two-day congress aims to address several issues, most notably how to strengthen security through dialogue and tolerance and search for peaceful solutions to conflicts, as well as prevent them.
The UAE is participating through an official delegation led by Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the World Council of Muslim Communities, which includes Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace; Ahmed Al Muhairi and Afra Mohammed Hassan Al Sabri, who are representatives of the Minister of Tolerance’s Office; Yousif Al Obaidli, Director-General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre; Maqsoud Kruse, Director-General of the Hedayah Centre, and Abdullah Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Acting Executive Director of the National Tolerance Programme.
The organisers of the congress said that it will focus on discussing several sensitive issues, which include spreading tolerance, preventing the collapse of international law, the values of friendship and peaceful coexistence, and strengthening dialogue and cooperation between religions, in response to threats of violence.
The congress, whose first edition was held in Astana 15 years ago, is held every three years, with the participation of leaders of various religions, heads of states and governments, political figures, scholars and representatives of international organisations.
The congress aims to give its participants the opportunity to present their points of view and listen to each other’s opinions, with the aim of creating joint recommendations on how to work together to face serious challenges, most notably the crimes that are being committed in the name of religion.
The congress also aims to help establish respect for religious pluralism, cultural diversity and interactions between cultures, as well as strengthen the mutual understanding among communities.
