CARE Implements Project To Improve Protection Of Syrian Refugees In Jordan

The CARE International in Jordan said it will implement a new project, funded by the "Australian Department of Home Affairs" to improve protection and resilience of Jordanians and refugees affected by the Syria crisis.

Amman, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jul, 2018 ) :The CARE International in Jordan said it will implement a new project, funded by the "Australian Department of Home Affairs" to improve protection and resilience of Jordanians and refugees affected by the Syria crisis.

The Project entitled "Improving protection and resilience for refugees and Jordanians affected by the Syrian Crisis" builds on the previous Home Affairs funded project due to end mid- July 2018.

A statement by Care said the project is part of CARE Jordan's portfolio to support displaced populations and host communities in Jordan.

The project aims to reach 130,641 individuals (30,548 households) over the period of two years.As the conflict in Syria enters its eighth year, the statement added, Jordan is hosting 666,596 registered Syrian refugees, 51% of which are children.

Over 80% of Syrian urban refugees live below poverty line and access to cash is difficult despite the opening of some sectors within the labor market to provide legal work opportunities.

A continued emphasis on building self-resilience is required, whilst continuing to provide emergency assistance to meet basic needs, it said.

The new two-year project will continue to work with vulnerable Jordanian host communities, refugees in Irbid, Mafraq and Zarqa and additionally in two new locations: Azraq and Amman.

The project will also resume its work with Syrian refugees and host Jordanian communities and expand reach out to include other refugee groups from Somalia, Sudan, Iraq and Yemen who are in urgent need of assistance.

The project is set to have a particular focus on the needs of women and children as identified through CARE's vulnerability assessments, as well as continue CARE's comprehensive and integrated approach from the current project and pursue new activities including meeting the urgent protection needs of vulnerable refugees by improving access to psychosocial services and in-depth case management.

The project will also provide conditional cash for protection and education for families of at risk children of child labor, and early and forced child marriage. The expansion of education-related activities in cooperation with CARE partner, Jordan River Foundation's Madrasati, will provide remedial education, increasefocus on reaching vulnerable populations through mobile psychosocialactivities and partnerships with local CBOs.
