Representatives of civil society Thursday stressed the need for creating awareness among masses on the rights of transgender to get houses on rent for residence without any hurdle
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jan, 2019 ) :Representatives of civil society Thursday stressed the need for creating awareness among masses on the rights of transgender to get houses on rent for residence without any hurdle.
According to transgender, they have to face hardships in search of rented houses as owners avoid to give them their places.
This discriminatory attitude towards transgender compelled them to live in miserable conditions.
The representatives of civil society have demanded proper implementation of existing laws to protect transgender's rights so that they can live a peaceful life in the society.
Sheela, a transgender said, "It is quite difficult for us to look for any room or house in area as property owner treat them as they are from different planet".
She said that "sometime it becomes difficult to answer the totally unnecessary questions asked by people".
She further said that "if some one agrees to give room on rent, they stare our body and then ask if you are a boy or a girl".
She said that no one was ready to give accommodate in their houses as they think it is matter of prestige and they can't afford to accommodate transgender in their houses.
Dr Maleeha, a social activist said that gender identification becomes a very essential component which is required to be recognized by this community.
She said that many of the NGO's in country were offering them shelter, but it should have done by the authority concerned to take necessary measure for their rights. She said that despite many initiatives and legislative frameworks by Government they were still deprive of their rights of having a rental house.
She said that there should be separate shelter community for them as incumbent government's initiative of shelters homes for homeless persons, so they can live with peace and dignity.
