Committee reviews implementation of SDGs

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Sep, 2016 ) : Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Sheikh Aftab, Friday chaired a steering committee meeting to discuss implementation of PM's 17 Sustainable Development Goals Programme in order to provide basic facilities including clean drinking water, sanitation, and electricity supply.

The minister who is also chairman Prime Minister Sustainable Development Goals Program (PMSDGP) said it was the vision of the Prime Minister (PM) that the development programme should not be politicized as it had no links with the parliamentarians and was purely a development package with clear focus on addressing basic needs of the common man.

The minister said he discussed the implementation of PMSDGP at length with the provinces and especially with the Sindh government in his recent visit, a press release said. The minister directed the concerned authorities to speed up the availability of funds for various development schemes.

The meeting was attended by MNA Capt. Safdar and senior officials of various ministries. The minister said that Pakistan was the first country to adopt the UN SDGs ,replacing the previous MDGs. The implementation of PMSDGP (Wazeer-e-Azam Qaumi Taraqiati Programme) had been approved by the cabinet in its meeting on August 31.
