LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Sep, 2018 ) :The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday summoned chairman Evacuee Trust Property board (ETPB) for September 26 on a petition seeking directions for availability of crematorium for Hindu community in the city.
Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi passed the orders while hearing a public interest petition filed by Advocate Ishtiaq A. Chaudhry.
Earlier, local government officials appeared before the court on being summoned. They submitted that the department did not have any objection and a place could be reserved for crematorium, if directed by the court. However, they submitted that the matter is related to ETPB.
At this, the court summoned the chairman ETPB for Sept 26 to know his stance over the issue while adjourning the further hearing.
The petitioner-lawyer had submitted that the Hindu community living in Lahore had been facing difficulties in case of death of any of its members as the government had not built any cremation place for their last rituals.
The lawyer also pointed out that the rules of the Lahore Development Authority provided reserved place for cremation near residential areas. He urged the court to issue a direction to the authorities concerned to ensure availability of crematorium for Hindu community in the city.
