PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Nov, 2017 ) :The Minister of Finance Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muzzafar Said has said, although the cricket reigns as a popular game in South Asia yet certain other sports are also equally famous among people.

With this fact in the backdrop, the minister said, we are determined to promote maximum games and for this purpose, around 70 playing grounds have been constructed all across the province in order to provide maximum opportunities to the youth to excel.

This he said while talking to a reception hosted in the honor of the newly elected Secretary General of AIPS ASIA, Amjad Aziz Malik, joint editor of Sunday Sports Magazine. Former MPA Dr. Muhammad Zakir Shah, former provincial minister of Information, Asif Iqbal Daudzai, his well-wishers, friends and members from the media were also present.Projecting soft image of our beloved country of Pakistan, when it comes to contribution of sports in this respect, is the need of the hour, Muzzafar Said, said.

There was time, he added, when Pakistan used to be the world champion of Squash, Cricket, Snooker and Hockey but due to lack of focus upon grass root level development of sports, the progress has been slowed down.

Ever since the AIPS ASIA Congress took place at Islamabad, he said, people across the country have become conscious about the services of AIPS and its continental wings towards promotion of sports through journalism.

The day is not far away, he expressed the confidence, when Pakistanis will also avail the opportunity of becoming host to the EC of AIPS. Expressing good wishes to Amjad Aziz Malik, who also is the member of AIPS's Executive Committee, the minister said, his un-opposed election as Secretary General of AIPS ASIA is honor for every Pakistani.

He expressed the confidence that he would be able to successfully serve for promotion and progress of sports journalism across the Asia continent. The former provincial minister of Information, Asif Iqbal Daudzai also spoke on this occasion and said,indeed the Pakistan Sports Writers Federation has been proving a useful and best forum for the sports journalists of the country to flourishing their professional capabilities.

Welcoming the initiatives of the AIPS ASIA's charter to arranging training programs for professional uplift of the young sports journalists of the continent, he said, it indeed will derive encouraging impact towards promotion of sports and sports journalism.

Appreciating the services of Amjad Aziz Malik towards promotion of sports journalism, Iqbal Daudzai said, his contribution in this respect is well acknowledged, since he has earned the unique honor for the country for the first time in its history.

Making the presence of delegates from 30 countries at the AIPS ASIA Congress in itself is a visible sign of it, he added. Peace has been returned to Pakistan; international teams are to visit various cities and definitely the fans of sports in Pakistan will also avail the opportunity to witness events of international levels,� he said.

This, he added, will equally offer level playing field to sports writers of Pakistan to flourish their abilities and project the soft image of the country. On this occasion, Kulah (a traditional cap) was also presented to Amjad Aziz Malik.
