Women going for whitening facials have no idea what kind of creams are being applied on their faces at beauty parlors, said eminent dermatologist and consultant Dr. Dharam Deve Rathi
HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Dec, 2017 ) :Women going for whitening facials have no idea what kind of creams are being applied on their faces at beauty parlors, said eminent dermatologist and consultant Dr.
Dharam Deve Rathi . Talking to APP on Wednesday, he said that steroid-based fairness, whitening and bleaching creams contain harmful metals. There needs to be a scientific analysis of all fairness creams currently available in the market and those found containing steroids or any harmful ingredient should be completely banned, added.
According to Dr. Dharam Deve Rathi, patients that also include men, though their number is much less, pay a high cost for using topical steroids on their faces. Not only the treatment for their damaged skin is expensive, the scars left by pimples are permanent.
The skin becomes resistant to regular treatment and takes a long time to recover. At times, the skin pigmentation lasts for good, says Dr. Dharam. The misuse of topical steroids, he said, was common across the country and there was a need for a regulatory mechanism to check sale of harmful creams.
He further informed that the use of these cosmetics was harmful for the skin. He said various dangerous chemicals like steroids and mercury ipecac were being used in face-whitening creams which had a bad impact upon the skin and led to skin diseases including skin cancer.
He further informed that the sale of substandard cosmetics is on the rise in various markets of the city whereas the authorities concerned do not seem to be bothered.
Vendors offer these items at very low prices as compared to the original items.
Unaware of their side effects, and because of their low cost, these fake cosmetics are very popular with the poor, added. He said that manufacturers of many low-cost cosmetics use various chemicals and toxic whitening agents that lead to skin allergies and diseases, including skin cancer.
He said that the owners of the cosmetic shops are earning high profit by selling substandard and non-recommended cosmetics particularly bleaching products and ointments to female with different ages.
Dr. Dharam Deve Rathi further informed that the women particularly adults have developed phenomena of making their skin fair with healthy hairs which forced them to use cosmetic products irrespective of the fact that whether these products are suitable for their skin and hairs or not, he said and added that they are inspired with the advertisements of non branded companies being telecast at different television channels with guarantee that the use of these products can made them more beautiful with fair skin and healthy hairs with minimum time.
Dr. Dharam Dev Rathi suggested the women should avoid of becoming influence with the advertisement as use such non certified and unbranded cosmetic products can only increase complications in their skins and hairs instead to settle their issues.
