Govt To Facilitate National, Int'l Media On Polling Day: Minister

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2018 ) :Caretaker Minister Information Punjab Ahmed Waqas Riaz on Sunday said that the Punjab government would ensure provision of all necessary facilities to national and international media regarding timely information about electoral process on the polling day.
Talking to representatives of the electronic media here on Sunday, the minister said that the provincial government would consider proposals and recommendations of journalist community for provision of latest information to the media on the election day.
Secretary Information Punjab Bilal Ahmed Butt, Director General Public Relations Ms Nabeela Ghazanfer, officers of Information Department along with bureau chiefs of electronic media attended the meeting.
The Minister said that conducting free and fair elections was a responsibility of the caretaker government and they were restricted to their constitutional mandate.
He told journalists attending the meeting that the caretaker government was ensuring all necessary arrangements to make the election process transparent, for which process of transfer and postings of the administrative staff and the police was under way.
During the question & answer session, Minister said that the media was a watchdog and its positive criticism helps every government correct its lapses in the administrative structure. "We appreciate the role of electronic media to sensitise society and the government for betterment of people." Secretary Information Punjab Bilal Ahmed Butt informed the media representatives about the steps being taken by the government for addressing grievances of the public.
The media representatives invited the minister information and secretary information Punjab to visit their media houses. The minister and the secretary accepted their invitations.
