Merit System To Be Ensured To Tackle Challenges Of Police: IGP

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Sep, 2018 ) :Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Muhammad Tahir said that in order to tackle the challenges of Punjab Police, adherence to merit system will be ensured and strategy of punishment and reward be followed along with the welfare of the force.
He said this while talking to media at Central Police office, here on Tuesday. Active troops presented a salute to IG Punjab upon his arrival at CPO while senior police officers gave him a warm welcome.
He told that for the time being, the attention of police is delegated to maintain peaceful environment during Muharram-ul-Haram so, no plan for transfer or postings of officers is under consideration, however, immediate steps can be taken for administrative reforms in police for the comfort of the citizens where needed after Muharram-ul-Haram.
The IG Punjab said that it is indeed a great responsibility to head the largest police force of the country and he will perform his duty with honesty, hard work. "Thana culture actually depicts the overall culture of our society," he said and added that to change this "thana" culture, he will suggest to follow Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police model and introduce Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) along with other initiatives. He said that special heed will be paid to the timely registration and redressal of FIRs.
He also said that attention would be given to welfare programs through modern policing in order to raise the morale of the force and new programs and courses will be started for capacity building of the officers and officials.
He said that a comprehensive plan is underway to provide foolproof security during Muharram-ul-Harram for majalis and processions" and the matter of transfers and postings will be considered after that.
He further said, "Merit will be followed strictly and we will ensure transparency in all the recruitments in Punjab Police." Moreover, Ex-IG Punjab Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam had a farewell meeting with senior police officers and handed over the charge of IG Punjab to Muhammad Tahir. All the additional IGs and DIGs of CPO attended the change of command ceremony held at CPO.
Expressing gratitude to senior police officers for tremendous team work, Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam in his farewell speech said that he tried his best to solve the administrative and other problems honestly in consultation with officers which is evident from the fact that during election, the atmosphere of peace prevailed in all the districts of Punjab and that was made possible by the efforts of all the officers and officials of Punjab Police.
IG Punjab Muhammad Tahir said, "We will continue the programs that have been initiated by Dr. Kaleem Imam for the welfare of the force." He further said that all the modern available resourceswould be utilized to eliminate militancy, terrorism and sectarianism from the society.
