National Assembly Body On Law Passes Bill To Increase Number Of Judges In Islamabad High Court

National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice Tuesday approved the Islamabad High Court (Amendment) Bill, 2018 aimed at increasing the number of judges in the court
The fourth meeting of the Standing Committee on Law and Justice held under the Chairmanship of MNA Riaz Fatyana unanimously approved the minutes of its previous meetings on January 2 and January 3, 2019.
The Committee considered the Islamabad High Court (Amendment) Bill, 2018. After detailed deliberations, the Committee recommended with majority that the Bill may be passed by the Assembly.
According to the Statement of Objects and Reasons of the bill, the existing sanctioned strength of Judges of Islamabad High Court (IHC) is six plus one Chief Justice. As intimated by the IHC, the present strength of Judges compared to number of pending cases is not sufficient, besides the institution of fresh cases which is increasing every year.
It is, therefore, necessary to increase the strength of the Judges of the IHC from seven to ten Judges including Chief Justice to overcome the difficulties of litigant public for early disposal of long pending cases.
It also considered the Legal Practitioners and Bar Council (Amendment) Bill, 2018 moved by MNA Ms. Aliya Kamran. Vice Chairman Pakistan Bar council attended the meeting and the Committee deferred the Bill for its re-consideration with the observation that as the Pakistan Bar Council is the major stakeholder so it is recommended to seek report in writing from the Pakistan Bar Council.
NA Body considered the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2018 (Amendment in Article 51 and 106) moved MNA Naveed Aamir Jeeva.
After detailed deliberations, the Committee deferred the Bills for its re-consideration in its next meeting with, the direction to Ministry to seek report and data from National Database and Registration Authority as well as from the Statistic Division to proceed further in the matter.
It considered "The Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2018 {Amendment in Article 25B, 51, 63B, 92 and 106) moved by MNA Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani. After detailed deliberations, the Committee recommended that the Bill may not be passed by the Assembly.
Those who attended the meeting included MNA Atta Ullah, Lal Chand, Muhammad Farooq Azam Malik, Ms. Kishwer Zehra, Ms. Maleeka Ali Bokhari, Muhammad Sana Ullah Khan Masti Khel, Malik Muhammad Ehsan Ullah Tiwana, Agha Hassan Baloch, Sher Ali Arbab, Ms. Shunila Ruth, Rana Sana Ullah Khan, Ch. Mehmood Bashir Virk,Usman Ibraheem, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Syed Hussain Tariq, Ms. Nafisa Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar, Ms. Aliya Kamran, Naveed Amir Jeeva and Dr. Ramish Kumar Vankwani.
