Parents demands for setting up first women university in ICT

With the increasing population potential of women folk in the federal capital parents particularly young girls demanded the incumbent government to set up the already announced first Women University of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT)

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th May, 2019 ) :With the increasing population potential of women folk in the Federal capital parents particularly young girls demanded the incumbent government to set up the already announced first Women University of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

The female students of various public schools, colleges and girls alike endorsed the fact that under graduate and post graduate programmes offered at various existing varsities did not ensure gender parity which should be addressed by the quarters concerned.

They said that a number of girls remain deprived of higher education for not having their separate university and quality education.

Talking to APP on Monday they said the prior governments had announced to establish first Women University in the Post Graduate College for Women F/7-2. Ironically, the university had been announced three times earlier by the previous governments but no development was made despite many assurances time and again.

The parents residing in the federal capital who do not want to educate their daughters in co-education system had no other option left than International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) for girls.

"The female population has convincingly increased in the federal capital due to which only IIUI could not accommodate admissions to such a large number of girls due to limited space available," the students maintained.

The parents and educational experts of the federal capital urged the government of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) to take action in this regard and materialize its manifesto of providing easy and quality education to girls.

They also demanded for establishing the Women University as soon as possible like the Prime Minister House University.

According to details, around 10 years back in 2008, the then Minister for Education Prof Ahsan Iqbal during the government of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) had announced to convert the Post Graduate College for Women F/7-2 into the first Women University of Islamabad.

Later on, after breaking of the coalition government of PMLN and PPP, Senator Faisal Raza Abidi of PPP also visited the college and assured to complete the project.

The funds had been allocated several times for the completion of the project but unfortunately the university could not be established so far.

During the previous government of PML-N, PC-I of One billion Rupees had also been approved for establishment of the Women University F/7-2. In this regard, in 2015, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) had sent a summary for the approval of Women University to the then Ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), which was hold by the CADD Ministry by imposing condition for prior approval from Cabinet Division.

However, during the last budget of 2018 an amount of Rs 10 million had been allocated as token money in the name of Skills University H/8 and F/7-2 Women University but no further action was taken for initiating the project so far.
