The residents of Gilgit city Wednesday held a protest demonstration against massive power outages that brought the commercial, social and educational activities to a halt in the northern areas
The protesters gathered near Canima bazar, burnt tyre and chanted slogans against the excessive load shedding. They also carried banners inscribed with slogans against the concerned authorities.
Talking to APP, a protester Nadeem said that people in the region couldn't endure the prolonged electricity outages.
He alleged that many power projects in the region, including Naltar, Kargha and Joglot had become dysfunctional for want of maintenance.
He further alleged that smooth power supply was being ensured to influential people in the city through a special line, but the poor people were being subjected to excessive load shedding.
Total needs of Gilgit city is sixty mega watt while current power generation is only twenty nine mega watts.
