River Indus Continues To Run In Low Flood

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Augst,2016) : The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said the River Indus is flowing in low flood in "Guddu-Sukkur" Reach. According to daily FFC report all main rivers including Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal.
The river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela Dam is at elevation of 1538.15 feet, which is 11.85 feet below its Maximum Conservation Level of 1550.00 feet, whereas Mangla Dam has attained its Maximum Conservation Level of 1242.00 feet.
The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma & Mangla reservoirs is 13.287 MAF as compared to last year's 13.765 MAF. According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, yesterday's Monsoon Low over Eastern Uttar Pradesh (India) has dissipated and a fresh Monsoon Low has developed over Northern Bay of Bengal.
Yesterday's trough of Westerly Wave over Northern parts of the country today lies over Kashmir and adjoining areas.
Seasonal Low continues to prevail over Northern Balochistan. Weak moist current from Arabian Sea is penetrating into central parts of the country upto 2000 feet. As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, mainly dry weather is expected over most parts of the country during the next 24 hours.
However, isolated thunderstorm/ rain may occur over the upper catchments of all major Rivers including North and Northeastern Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala & Lahore Divisions), besides, Northeastern Balochistan, Kashmir and Gilgit- Baltistan during the same period.
No significant rainfall event has been reported by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore during the past 24 hours.
