LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2019 ) :Finance Minister Punjab Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht Tuesday said that making the institutions self-sufficient was crucial for the improvement of the service delivery.

Chairing a meeting of the ministerial committee for Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) to review WASA's financial constraints here, the minister instructed the departments to prepare workable business plan and give their budget estimations for fiscal year 2019-20.

Hashim Jawan said that subsidy means provision of facilities to lower strata of society, and not for feeding the institutions. The water shortage would create big troubles in future and to avoid such situation there was a need to launch water storage, recycling of water projects on priority basis, besides installing water meter in all cities of Punjab.

Provincial Finance Minister said the decision of making WASA an independent organization would be taken after its review and evaluation of its revenue.

WASA Managing Director briefed the meeting about the Authority's revenues and expenditures gap; the status of subsidies and future business plan. The minister asked MD WASA to prepare workable financial planning for the WASA under the new proposed Local Government system to make the new system more effective to improve the service delivery.

Provincial Housing Minister Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed, and officers of Punjab Planning and Development Department, Local Governments Department and Finance Department also attended the meeting.
