Social Activists Stress On Effective Role Of Social Organizations For Elimination Of Beggary, Child Labour

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jan, 2019 ) :Social activists here on Wednesday suggested that all social welfare organizations should come forward to support the government for elimination of begging (baggary) and child labour like social evils from the society .

Talking to ptv social activists stressed that a comprehensive campaign to eliminate both these social evils should be launched by the relevant authorities and which, no doubt, will be encouraged and supported by the citizens.

A Social activist Rana Asif Habib in an interview with PTV news channel said, professional beggary is becoming a social menace as more and more beggars including physically fit, healthy and young men, women and children are turning towards this profession.

He further explained they found begging at all the main intersections of major roads, which not only upset the flow of traffic but create a nuisance for every road user.

He also appealed to the citizens that they should discourage illegal begging instead of encouraging it, adding, present government also recently launched a country-wide crackdown against these beggar mafia, so that only deserving people could get aid.

Another Social worker Aliya Sarim said , the beggar mafia is getting much stronger in our society and the government is taking some initiative and taken some strict actions against this mafia.

She said begging is a complex social nuisance and in most cases it is not caused by poverty; rather by human laziness. Even those who are not handicapped or disabled and can work and have a good living but they prefer to pretend disabled and use disguising tricks to emotionally exploit the public so that they can get alms from sympathetic and innocent citizens.

She also mentioned the beggar mafia is very active in kidnapping infants and children, they do not demand ransom but they do kidnap people to use them in their booming beggary business industry.

Women beggars play on human emotions by showing doctors' prescriptions while carrying newborn babies to get public sympathy and begging people for money to spend on their ill child , adds, sometimes the infants with the women beggars are badly sick because of the heat or in winter because of the harsh cold weather, she highlighted.

She further said in our society begging has traditionally been tolerated and even encouraged because that people give them money to gain religious merits and earn sawab but we have forgotten that these people are professionals and living idly is a sole purpose of their lives.

"In our country, and in other South Asian Countries, people have the tendency to provide alms or charity to poor people, she said.

"Different social institution with the government help should take effective measures against the increasing problem of begging and to ensure that the street children and orphans do not fall into the hands of such culprits who push them into this profession", she urged.

"The first step should be to make arrangements for the settlement of child beggars otherwise launching campaigns against them time and again will not yield any result," social activist added.
