Speakers Show Concern In Delay " The Rights Of Persons With Disabilities Bill 2018"

The speakers at a seminar on "The Rights of the persons with disabilities bill 2018" organized by "Potohar Mental health Association (PMHA) raised reservations over the delay made in the process to table the bill in the National Assembly here on Friday
Senator Farhat Ullah Babar was the chief guest at the occasion. He said that the delay to present the bill in assembly was alarming as there might be some flaws in the bill.
He said that there was dire need to promote inclusion of the persons with disabilities specifically women living with disabilities in all spheres of life.
"A comprehensive law at national level should be put in place and myth about the person with disabilities should be challenged," he added.
He said the bill was in the functional committee on Human rights and (PHMA) should write a letter to the chairman of the Committee for nominating persons with disability in the Committee for legislation.
He said that there should be accurate definition and specification of age for the person with disabilities.
To recognize the old women, refugees and disable women in rural areas, there was dire need to collect data and registration of the person with disabilities, he added.
Noreen Khan, Assistant Director Legal, Pakistan Bait-Ul-Maal said, "We need to see the person with disabilities as human beings rather than objects."Speaking on the occasion Zulqnain Asghar, Chief executive, PHMA said Polling stations should be accessible as per needs of person with disabilities as there was need to change people's mindset about the concept of the person with disabilities and Postal ballot was just another form of exclusion by denying access to people living with disabilities.
