ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Apr, 2019 ) :The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday sought reply from the former president and co-chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari in a disqualification plea filed against him by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Khurram Sher Zaman and Usman Dar.
Chief Justice Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Athar Minallah while listening to the petition issued notice to Asif Ali Zardari in the matter.
During the hearing Chief Justice remarked that political parties should avoid bringing such matters to courts as a lot of cases were pending before the courts.
He urged that Parliament should make a special committee to tackle with such issues as well as stressed that Election Commission of Pakistan was the patent platform for the purpose.
The petitioners had disclosed that the former president omitted details in nomination papers filed in ECP regarding various properties he owned in United States and within the country that is violation of Article 62(i)(f) of the Constitution and Section 231 of the Election Act, 2017.
Zardari was elected MNA from NA-213 seat during the July 25 general election and is not qualified to be a member of the National Assembly, the petition added.
The Chief Justice after listening to the initial arguments issued notice to Asif Ali Zardari and sought reply within two weeks.
The petitioners had earlier filed such petition in Supreme Court which was turned back with objections.
