Three-day Anti-polio Campaign Kicks Off In Balochistan

QUETTA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Aug, 2018 ) :More than 1.7 million children will be administered polio drops during a three-day anti-polio campaign which started in several districts of Balochistan on Monday.

According to Coordinator Emergency Operation Center Syed Faisal Ahmed, 6,067 mobile teams, 521 fixed points and 413 transit points had been established across the province to administer polio drops to the children below the age of five.

"Security arrangements for the anti-polio campaign have been finalised across the province as Frontier Corps Balochistan, Police and Leveis personnel are taking part in providing security to the polio staff," Syed Faisal said.

He said this year only three new polio cases had surfaced in Pakistan.

The three cases were reported from Duki, Balochistan.

He said the anti-polio drive had commenced in Quetta, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Loralai, Duki, Dera Bugti, Barkhan, Sherani, Zhob, Mastung, Kalat, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Lasbela Chaghi and other districts of Balochistan. Quetta, Qilla Abdullah and Pishin districts had been declared as high-risk areas where polio virus was still active and endangering children for lifetime disability, he added.

Urging parents to get polio drops administered to their children, Syed Faisal said with having support of civil society, religious scholars and media they could get the major achievement of eradication of the polio virus,
