Google Maps Says to Blur Satellite Images of French Prisons by December - Reports

Google Maps has pledged to blur satellite images of French penitentiary sites by December, local media reported on Wednesday, citing the French Justice Ministry.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th October, 2018) Google Maps has pledged to blur satellite images of French penitentiary sites by December, local media reported on Wednesday, citing the French Justice Ministry.

On Tuesday, Justice Minister Nicole Belloubet said that she had requested Google to delete all satellite images of the country's detention facilities from its maps after Redoine Faid, a repeat offender, escaped from a prison near Paris by helicopter.

According to the BFMTV broadcaster, the US tech company said in a letter to Belloubet that it had been finalizing work on blurring the images of French detention facilities on Google Maps and Google Earth.

"The letter says that all the facilities will be blurred by December," ministry spokesman Youssef Badr told the broadcaster.

Five years ago, Faid managed to break out of the Sequedin prison in northeast France by blasting a wall of the facility and taking several hostages.
