ADDIS ABABA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Jan, 2019 ) :More than 130 migrants have gone missing after two migrant boats capsized off the coast of Djibouti, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Wednesday.
In a press statement, the IOM said the two boats sank off Godoria, a locality in the Obock region of northeast Djibouti on Tuesday morning, shortly after setting off in the Red Sea.
The IOM said so far it has rescued two migrants and recovered the bodies of three women and two men.
Search operations are still going on to recover the bodies of the missing migrants.
The IOM didn't specify the nationality of the migrants.
Every year, thousands of Ethiopians looking for better economic opportunities go through Djibouti and the Red Sea to reach the Arabian Peninsula. And hundreds of them die while trying to cross the Red Sea either of thirst or drowning yearly.
In recent years, the Ethiopian government has taken out advertisement in local print and broadcast media outlets to warn its nationals of the danger of illegal migration.
