LIMA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 01st March, 2019) Peru's government declared a state of emergency in several regions of the Arequipa and Huanuco provinces in the southern and central parts of the country due to heavy rains and flooding, local media have reported.
The emergency had been declared for 60 days, El Peruano news outlet reported.
In February, the authorities declared an emergency in the southeast of Peru.
According to the declaration, local administration should cooperate with the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI) and a number of ministries in order to lower the high danger level amid the disaster.
INDECI's data have shown that 51 people were deceased due to to the rains and flooding.
In mid-February, President Martin Vizcarra said that at least 10 people had been killed in landslides and flooding in southern Peru, adding that 1,800 people had been injured due to the disaster.
