Rome To Host International Conference On Radicalization Threat In May - Prime Minister

Rome will host an international conference on combating radicalization in May, with the event expected to bring together representatives of European intelligence agencies, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Monday
Delivering a speech at Italy's school for Information and Security, Conte noted that the radicalization of those entering Italy was a serious concern for citizens, who perceive this process as an "imminent danger."
According to Conte, the issue has long been in focus of European intelligence services, and the conference in Rome is aimed at facilitating the exchange of experience in combating this dangerous phenomenon.
The issue of radicalization has been a pressing issue for Europe for several years, including over the threat posed by people returning from battlefields in the middle East.
As the fight against terrorism in Syria and Iraq is nearing its end, Europe also has to decide what to do with EU nationals captured on the battlefields. A number of Nordic countries have, for example, suggested that such people should be judged and jailed where they committed their crimes, in the Middle East, over fear that their repatriation and detention will only contribute to wider radicalization, including in prisons.
