Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Discusses Mideast Crises With UAE Leadership - Moscow

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed crises in the Middle East and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, in particular, with UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan and other UAE top officials during his visit to Abu Dhabi, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th November, 2018) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed crises in the middle East and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, in particular, with UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan and other UAE top officials during his visit to Abu Dhabi, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

Bogdanov also held meetings with Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a UAE national security adviser, and Ali Al Shamsi, the deputy secretary-general of the UAE Supreme National Security Council.

During the talks, the sides praised the mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and the United Arab Emirates. The sides reaffirmed mutual commitment to maintain a trustful political dialogue and to strengthen cooperation in trade, economic, investment, cultural, humanitarian and other fields.

"As part of an in-depth exchange of views on topical issues of the regional and international agenda, priority was given to the development of the situation in Syria, Yemen, Libya and also the prospects for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement," the ministry said.

The sides stressed the necessity to overcome ongoing crises and conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa through negotiation process, inclusive national dialogue with resolute fight against terrorism.

Violence between Israel and the Hamas militant group, which runs Gaza, erupted on Monday after a Hamas commander was killed in a covert Israeli operation. An Israeli officer also died in the ensuing gunfight. The Israeli military said it had intercepted over 100 out of the 460 rockets fired from Gaza and attacked 160 militant targets in the enclave. Both sides have suffered casualties. On Tuesday, the violence significantly decreased and a new ceasefire agreement was reached under Egypt's mediation.
