Russian Human Rights Council Head Offers Greek Partners to Boost Cooperation

Mikhail Fedotov, the chairman of the Russian Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights, suggested Tuesday that Russia and Greece should foster cooperation in the human rights field and hold a series of joint events to promote dialogue.

ATHENS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd October, 2018) Mikhail Fedotov, the chairman of the Russian Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights, suggested Tuesday that Russia and Greece should foster cooperation in the human rights field and hold a series of joint events to promote dialogue.

Fedotov took part in the third international forum on tolerance "Xenophobia and Radicalism in Europe. Global Challenges" which was held on October 21-22 in Athens.

"I have invited the members of the Greek National Commission for Human Rights to visit Moscow so that we can share with them our council's experience.

I offered them to consider holding a joint session, visit a prison in Russia or Greece," Fedotov told reporters.

Specific human rights questions, including the case of Alexander Vinnik, a Russian national detained in Greece and wanted in the United States on suspicions of money laundering, would be discussed when the two parties start working together, the official said.

Fedotov added that there had been no criticism of Russia at the forum, which the official commended as devoid of politically motivated sentiments.
