The Russian market currently has a demand for 860 MС-21 passenger planes, which are manufactured by the country's Irkut Corporation, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov told reporters on Friday
"The flagship project, for which we all have many hopes, is the market launch of the MC-21. In Russia alone there is a demand for 860 of these aircraft. That is why, of course, it is important for us to complete the work on obtaining a certificate for this type of airplane and launch serial production," the deputy minister said following his visit to the special economic zone of Alabuga, located in the Russian republic of Tatarstan.
The MC-21 is a twin-engine mid-range airliner. The MC-21-200 model has a maximum capacity of 165 passengers while the MC-21-300 model has a 211-passenger capacity. The MC-21's maiden flight took place on May 28, 2017, at the airfield of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant and was followed by a series of test flights.
The MC-21-300 passenger aircraft will be first presented at the MAKS Air Show, set to be held from August 27 to September 1 in Russia.
