Third Yasen-Class Nuclear-Powered Submarine to Join Russian Navy in 2020 - Manufacturer

The Russian Navy will receive the third upgraded Yasen-class nuclear-powered submarine next year, Alexey Rakhmanov, the head of Russia's United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), said on Wednesday

PATRIOT PARK (Moscow Region) (UrduPoint news / Sputnik - 20th March, 2019) The Russian Navy will receive the third upgraded Yasen-class nuclear-powered submarine next year, Alexey Rakhmanov, the head of Russia's United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), said on Wednesday.

"Everything is happening according to the schedule," Rakhmanov told reporters, responding positively to the question of whether the third Yasen-class submarine would join the Russian Navy in 2020.

The Yasen-class (project 885M) is a series of Russia's newest nuclear-powered multipurpose attack submarines. In March 2017, the second upgraded Yasen-class submarine, the Kazan, was floated out by the Sevmash shipbuilder in Russia's Severodvinsk.

Rakhmanov said he regretted that the trials of the Kazan submarine were disrupted back in 2018, adding that there was hope the vessel would be commissioned this year.
