Trump Administration Kills Uranium Mining Radiation Control Measure - Environmental Agency

(UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th October, 2018) The US government withdrew a proposed pollution control regulation that would put a needless burden on Uranium miners, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said in a press release.

"In a rush to regulate during the waning hours of the previous administration, the Agency proposed a regulation that would have imposed significant burdens on uranium miners," the release said on Friday.

"Today, the EPA formally withdrew the proposed rulemaking for uranium and thorium mill tailings."

The withdrawal of this rule, the release added, has zero impact on the EPA's regulation of radiation.

US Senator John Barrasso was quoted in the release as saying the radiation control measure proposed by President Barack Obama's administration was needless given nuclear regulators have never found an instance of ground water contamination the rule was designed to address.
