MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 08th October, 2018) UK's leading Leave figures told Prime Minister Theresa May she could keep the country in the EU customs arrangement for two more years after Brexit, local media said Monday.
The Times reported that May wanted to end the deadlock in talks with Brussels over the Irish border by offering it to keep the entire country in the EU customs arrangement past December 2020.
The Tory's intention was to break free of EU customs rules by the end of the two-year transition period, which starts after the UK officially withdraws from the union on March 29, 2019.
But the paper now says that leading pro-Brexit Conservatives agreed over the weekend to give May more room for maneuver in the talks, with an option to keep EU customs rules until the next general election in 2022.
