Norway will host the world's first licensed service center to service F-16 fighter jets, the manufacturer Lockheed Martin announced in a press release on Tuesday
"This first-of-its-kind Falcon Depot Center reflects the strong global demand for F-16 sustainment services, which is poised to grow as we continue to produce new F-16s and upgrade existing aircraft," Lockheed Martin F-16 Program Vice President Susan Ouzts said in the release.
The hub will be operated by Lockheed Martin and AIM Norway, which provides maintenance, repair and modification services for fixed wing aircraft, helicopters and field equipment for the Norwegian armed forces, the release said.
There are approximately 3,000 operational F-16s in service today with 25 countries, and Lockheed Martin anticipates opportunities to build an additional 400 aircraft, the release added.
