ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Sep, 2017 ) : Poor diet on the job is costing countries around the world up to 20 per cent in lost productivity, either due to malnutrition that plagues some one billion people in developing countries or the excess weight and obesity afflicting an equal number mostly in industrialized economies.
According to health news , Poor meal programmes and poor nutrition underlie so many workplace issues: morale, safety, productivity, and the long-term health of the workers and nations. The ground-breaking study, the first to examine workplace eating habits worldwide, says better nutrition in the workplace can raise national productivity rates.
Employees eat nearly half of their daily meals and snacks at the workplace, which means that what is consumed during working hours can have a great impact on overall diet and health.
In this research blog, we focus on the workplace as a place to facilitate proper nutrition, identifying evidence-based interventions that promote healthy employee nutrition decisions.
We spoke with nutrition expert Dr. Kristine Madsen, Professor at UC Berkeley's school of Public Health, who provided insight into consumer habits as part of her research on the Berkeley soda tax The effects of a processed, Western Diet1 are well-known and include development of chronic diseases and poor cognitive function, which affect productivity, performance, absenteeism, and medical premiums.
