1.5 Mn Vehicles Ticketed For Traffic Rules Violation In Peshawar

ISLAMABAD, Jan 3 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Jan, 2017 ) : Traffic wardens fined 1.5 million vehicles for violation of traffic rules in Peshawar during 2016. Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Traffic Sadiq Baloch said Rs 260 million were deposited to national exchequer on account of traffic challans, a private news channel reported on Tuesday.
As many as 76,000 people were issued driving licenses while Rs 50 million were collected from them as license fee, he added.
According to an annual report of traffic police, 2700 people were booked during operations against temporary encroachments.
A total of 8700 traffic police personnel were given cash prizes for better performance in 2016, the report said and added around 3000 personnel were punished for negligence in their duties. The report said awareness campaign for traffic rules continued throughout the year and alternate traffic arrangements were made during protests on main routes of the city.
